this was a project for my fine art photography class. we were to pick a photographer, and figure out what they did, and why they did it, and create 3 images that could be considered part of their portfolio. i picked jerry uelsmann, but his images were all done in the dark room (seriously amazing beyond his time!). mine were done in a darkroom too, but that was my bedroom with the lights out..

i went through some of the photos on this blog and compiled what i think to be my top favorite photos from 2011. they were all chosen for different reasons, whether it meant something personal to me, or i just looked the way it looked, the story behind the image, or because i just wanted to try something new and different from my usual and liked the result. some were taken with my phone, others with my camera. they are in no particular order. i had many more favorites, but decided to narrow it down to 25.

this is for a project in my 19th century photographic process class. i will be turning the images into digital negatives to make salt prints (one of the first photography processes discovered by William Henry Fox Talbot.) the assignment was to create a memoir of some sort in a triptych.

one of my best friends called me up to see if i would be willing to photograph him and his girlfriend as he proposed to her in park city. i cancelled a california trip last minute so i could share this awesome experience with them! i played secret agent man with a telephoto lens hiding so she couldnt see me (she had no idea what was going on and i didnt want to blow his cover). i was such a neat experience to be there and capture these photos for them to have!

my favorite part of the lander parade was the 20 or so firetrucks at the end, getting everything/everybody soaking wet as they drove by. these kids were contemplating what to do.

this weekend i went back to lander, wy (i served there while i was a missionary for the church of Jesus Christ of latter-day saints, in the montana billings mission in 2004) with one of my best friends to see the amazing fireworks for the 4th of july celebration. the first night we were there we decided to sleep under the stars up sinks canyon. the stars were UNBELIEVABLE!

last night was a wonderful night on 100 block in provo. velour was showing wonderful music videos done by the occidental saloon while northplatte records put on a show with the devil whale and joshua james at muse music. the best part is (other than the music itself)? it was all FREE! i was torn between both places and unfortunately missed most of the devil whales performance. but here are a few shots with josh and evan. my roommate, will, took a few of these photos with my camera also.
